An Evening in Ethiopia

Last night Myself, Jeff, Renee, Maryn & Keller had the opportunity to attend a wonderful event hosted by the Ethiopian Student Association at Georgia State University. The event was called "A Night in Ethiopia" It was really great! There were over 100 students in attendance and they absolutely loved that Maryn and Keller made it out to "party". The evening consisted of a coffee ceremony, traditional dancing, various displays, Ethiopian food and a talk by Dr. Allen Dollar. Dr. Dollar is the father of 10 children, many of the them adopted and several from Ethiopia including Mesfin, one of my F-1 students at GSU. He's an active member of the GSU Student Association. Dr. Dollar is an Atlanta cardiologist who started a non-profit organization called The Children's Cross Connection, this organization helps people throughout the world including Ethiopia. Dr. Dollar volunteers his services to patients bringing them to Atlanta to receive life saving care, including his son Mesfin. Dr. Dollar presented some very interesting information about the state of health care in Ethiopia and the tremendous need for physicians. It was a very informative and entertaining evening and I hope to be able to become more involved with these students in the future.

Im so happy I was able to help the kids re-connect a little with Ethiopia, Maryn especially loved seeing the display tables and the dancing! I really hope we can do this again soon!
